Founder of Paiire and freelance hair and makeup artist with more than two decades of international experience.

The industry that built me
Alisia began as an apprentice in Melbourne, learning the craft the long way: on the floor, in front of clients, under senior stylists who expected the work to speak for itself. There was no shortcut and no algorithm, only repetition, standards and the slow accumulation of trust.
From the salon came television, and with it a different discipline entirely: live schedules, fast changes and no room for error. Editorial and campaign work followed, then fashion weeks and productions abroad. Every step forward came from the same place: someone who had worked with her before recommending her to someone else.
Two decades later, that pattern had never changed. The industry ran on relationships, and none of them lived anywhere.

It started on a salon floor in Melbourne: sweeping, shampooing, watching, listening. Years of craft learned one client at a time, where reputation was built shift by shift.

Working alongside freelance artists for more than two decades revealed the same challenge again and again. Exceptional talent was still being discovered through recommendations rather than technology. Paiire was created to give those recommendations a professional home.
Why Paiire exists
The moment arrived on a job abroad, when a client asked for a recommendation in a city Alisia had never worked in. She knew someone who knew someone. A few messages, a screenshot of a portfolio, a hope that it would hold up. It did, but it should never have been that fragile.
Extraordinary artists were almost impossible to discover unless you already knew their name. Clients relied entirely on word of mouth, and word of mouth only reaches as far as the last conversation. Freelancers, who make up most of the industry, had no professional network of their own, only social feeds built for attention rather than for work.
Booking apps filled part of the gap and missed the point. They optimised for transactions when the industry runs on relationships: reputation, references, repeat clients and the quiet credibility earned over years.

Alisia still works as a freelance hair and makeup artist. She is on set, backstage and with private clients while building Paiire, which keeps the platform honest: every decision is tested against the reality of a working artist's day.
